<title>The Uganda Higher Education Review.</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12283/3043</link>
<description>The Uganda Higher Education Review.
National Council for Higher Education
The Uganda Higher Education Review: Journal of the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE)&#13;
provides a visible outlet for definitive articles that discuss the theory, practice and policies relating&#13;
to the role, development, management and improvement of higher education from a national,&#13;
regional and international viewpoint. The journal provides a platform for scholars, researchers and&#13;
higher education institutions to make a contribution to scholarly debate through the publication of&#13;
quality peer-reviewed articles.&#13;
The journal publication is done twice a year, that is in May and September. The journal is&#13;
committed to the publication of both experienced and early career researchers so its editorial policy&#13;
pays overriding attention to helping contributors to reach the level of quality that is deemed fit for&#13;
the publication through ensuring relevant, fair and penetrating reviews as well as timely relay of&#13;
feedback to contributors.&#13;
The objective of the journal is to publish original research on higher education. The primary&#13;
aim of this journal is the dissemination of important research work that will promote a sustainable,&#13;
accessible and quality higher education that is relevant for social transformation.&#13;
Aims and Scope&#13;
The Uganda Higher Education Review is a broad-based journal that covers all aspects of higher&#13;
education. Papers containing new ideas, creative approaches and/or innovative applications are&#13;
welcome. Papers that discuss the theory, practice and policies relating to the role, development,&#13;
management and improvement of higher education from national, regional and international&#13;
viewpoints are sought.&#13;
NB: The journal is open access.&#13;
This journal is a product of the call for papers and research areas of focus in this volume10, issue 1, 2022, and include the following:&#13;
1. General enrolment ratio (GER).&#13;
2. Sustainable development and management of academic staff.&#13;
3. Higher education funding.&#13;
4. Innovations to increase STEM enrolment as well as supporting the teaching and learning of&#13;
STEM.&#13;
5. Building research and innovation capacity

<title>Strategies for the development of small molecule inhibitors of ebola viral infection.</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12283/2687</link>
<description>Strategies for the development of small molecule inhibitors of ebola viral infection.
Pleško, Sebastian; Podlipnik, Črtomir
The recent outbreak of Ebola viral disease (EVD) in West Africa reminded us that an&#13;
effective anti-viral treatment still does not exist, despite the significant progress that has&#13;
recently  been  made  in  understanding  biology  and  pathology  of  this  lethal  disease.&#13;
Currently,  there  are  no  approved  vaccine  and/or  prophylactic  medication  for  the&#13;
treatment  of  EVD in  the  market.  However,  the  serious  pandemic  potential  of  EVD&#13;
mobilized research teams in the academy and the pharmaceutical industry in the effort&#13;
to find an Ebola cure as fast as possible. In this chapter, we are giving the condensed&#13;
review of different approaches and strategies in search of a drug against Ebola. We have&#13;
been focusing on the review of the targets that could be used for in silico, in vitro, and/or&#13;
in vivo drug design of compounds that interact with the targets in different phases of&#13;
the Ebola virus life cycle.&#13;
Keywords: small molecule inhibitors, Ebola virus, drug design, protein targets, structure and action

<title>Ebola virus’s glycoproteins and entry mechanism.</title>

<description>Ebola virus’s glycoproteins and entry mechanism.

Ebola virus glycoprotein (GP) is the only protein that is expressed on the surface of the&#13;
virus. The GP proteins play critical roles in the entry of virus into cell and in the evasion&#13;
of the immune system. The GP gene transcript to membrane GP is constituted of two&#13;
subunits GP1 and GP2,and the secretory GP (sGP). The main function of GP1/2 is to attach&#13;
virus to target cell’s membrane, whereas sGP has multiple functions on Ebola pathogen‐&#13;
esis, such as inactivate neutrophils through CD16b causing lymphocyte apoptosis and&#13;
vascular dysregulation. There are many studies that focused on better understanding the&#13;
GP mechanism and aim at developing new antibodies and drugs such as VSV-EBOV,&#13;
cAd3-EBO Z, rVSVN4CT1 VesiculoVax, ‘C-peptide’ based on the GP2 C-heptad repeat&#13;
region (CHR) targeted to endosomes (Tat-Ebo) and MBX2270. In this chapter, we discuss&#13;
the  Ebola  viral  glycoproteins,  genomic  organization,  synthesis,  and  their  roles  and&#13;
functions. On the other hand, we treat the mechanisms of pathogenicity associated with&#13;
Ebola GPs.&#13;
Keywords: EBOLA, virus, glycoprotein (GP), entry, mechanism, pathogenesis, structure
