Abstract:
The significance of this research was to design and implement a fast, simple and effective computerized IT inventory management system with features such as adding equipment as classified in different categories into the system, adding, editing and deleting staff details, among others, hence delivering a high performance, lightweight and flexible computerized IT inventory management system.
The need for this arose when it was established and proved that existing system storing IT inventory was not effective as a lot of time was being wasted in the process of retrieving data about various ICT equipment, in the existing system, information was stored on paper in files, or in excel worksheets. With the computerized IT inventory management system, all IT inventory is managed and controlled in a single standalone system.
Many challenges were met during the implementation of the project.
The system was developed and implemented concurrently with other course units and tasks the researcher had to accomplish. This led to implementing of the system in bits which were later on merged. Finance and other resources to facilitate the entire research, design and implementation process were limited and were always not readily available which slowed down the entire process.
