<link>http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12283/4887</link>
<description>Role of social media in the promotion of tourism industry in Uganda:
Obote, Ricky
This study focused on examining the role of social media in the promotion of tourism industry in Uganda, with specific attention to the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC). The objectives were to explore the role of social media in travel planning by tourists visiting UWEC to assess its contribution in creating a positive destination image, and to determine its influence on tourists’ decision-making processes. The study was guided by the Uses and Gratification theory, which helped in explaining the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was employed, combining both quantitative and qualitative methods, as it was deemed suitable for obtaining the necessary data efficiently. The study population comprised 50 individuals, with a target of 45 participants. Simple random sampling was applied, covering four UWEC departments. Data was collected mainly through close-ended questionnaires, supplemented by both primary and secondary sources. The analysis involved both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Quantitative data was processed using SPSS software, where results were presented in the form of frequency tables, correlations, and regressions, while qualitative methods helped in summarizing and describing findings. The results were then interpreted based on the study objectives, leading to clear conclusions. The study recommended that greater emphasis be placed on the use of social media as a tool for tourism promotion in Uganda. Overall, it concluded that social media enhances tourism by supporting itinerary planning, providing destination information, and enabling tourists to share experiences.

<description>Economic impacts of tourism activities on the local communities:
Kemigisa, shalotte
This study examined the economic impact of tourism activities on local communities, focusing on Busingiro near Budongo Forest Reserve. Key objectives included evaluating tourism’s economic contributions, assessing employment opportunities, and identifying challenges faced by the community. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, data were collected from 52 randomly selected respondents through questionnaires and interviews. Findings revealed that tourism significantly benefits the Busingiro community by creating employment, generating income through wildlife and primate-based activities, and supporting small-scale businesses through nature and cultural tourism. However, challenges such as limited skills, poor infrastructure, unequal benefit distribution, and seasonal tourism hinder full potential. The study concludes that while tourism supports economic growth, more needs to be done. It recommends infrastructure development, skills training, inclusive participation, and better marketing to maximize tourism’s role in sustainable rural development.

<title>The contribution of tourism activities to the economic growth and development of Uganda:</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12283/4863</link>
<description>The contribution of tourism activities to the economic growth and development of Uganda:
Akol, Patience
The contribution of tourism activities in the economic growth and development of the economy has significantly improved the industry because the performance of tourism industry in terms of economic development and growth is influenced by the type of tourism activities in tourism industry (Dagunduro et al., 2022; Oboh &amp; Dabor, 2020). The study will be guided by theoretical underpinnings, as suggested by Gunn (1988). this theory assumes that to promote tourism contribution to economic development, an economy should denote the tourism tourists’ activities and product as a complex consumptive experience that results from a process where tourists use multiple of services more especially with the infrastructure like airport infrastructure, accommodation, and attraction services during the course of their visits.
