The demand for self-evaluation at Busitema University is not inspired by lack of quality. What it means is that quality has to be examined in a structural manner, within a well-defined framework.
Busitema University’s commitment to quality is embedded in all its systems and process. This is evidenced in the university strategic plan (formulated in line with its mission statement) in which quality assurance is one of the cross cutting themes.
In addition to assessment of various units notably; assessment of the University Council, Senate, University Management, Tracer Studies, Graduate Exit Surveys, Student Satisfactory Surveys.
This university wide baseline study gives attention to input, process and output indicators. Through self-assessments the University is committed to promoting internal and external confidence in the academic services provision.
The University quality assurance efforts are directed towards making its processes in Finance, Administration, Research, Teaching and Learning and Students Supporting Environment more effective and more efficient. Therefore, the university has a clear idea about the relevant demands and needs of all its stakeholders. To this effect, the university has a clearly formulated mission statement that is publicly known and is in line with the academic and social context with a clear vision on its role in society. The governance and management structures of the university are clear which facilitates decision-making process, competencies and clear responsibilities.
The results of this self-assessment exercise will help the university to locate its position as a role player in Higher Education within Uganda and beyond. Therefore, this self-assessment is more than just testing the performance. It also means university development and shaping its direction.
This reports should support the process of continuous improvement. It is my hope that stakeholders to Busitema University will utilize this report to enhance the performance of the university against the various benchmarks cited in the report. |
