Abstract:
Usuk Sub County under the Production department is aimed at equipping the farmers with skills and knowledge of agriculture in the communities around.
The industrial training at Usuk Sub County provided practical Skills, field practice, and experience to enhance the theoretical knowledge that is learnt in class. Therefore, my objectives were to acquaint myself with,
• The various crop practices and getting hands-on experience in food production skills
• The various crop varieties at the sub-county
• Crop diseases, their signs, symptoms, and control measures
• Methods of pest control used by farmers in the activity among others.
The training revealed that some of the theories taught in class slightly differ from what is practically done in the field, for example, very few welfare practices are applied in the field. The training also revealed that production and management in any sub-county are two different broad activities that must move hand in hand for any farmers who have their farms to get the expected profit or even more. Crop production and management require a lot of hard work, sacrifice, dedication, and determination.
It is therefore recommended that more Agricultural officers should be trained to guide and advise farmers who are facing hardships in crop production and management.
