This industrial training was carried out in the Kidongole sub-county located in the west of
Bukedea district for ten weeks from 21 May to 31st July under operation wealth creation and NUSAFIII
The objective of this IT is to expose the students to the community members in the field they are working with and enable them to put into practice the knowledge which has been acquired from class theoretically.
During the training at Kidongole sub-county, various activities were carried out which included the following; meat inspection, treating different animals like; goats, cattle, dogs, cats, etc., attending sub-county meetings, training farmers, farm visits, and data collection.
While in the field, skills were gained which included; communication skills on how to interact with the technical staff of Kidongole sub-county and the local farmers in the community, data collection skills in the field especially determining the amount of inputs supplied by OWC, treatment skills on how to inject and de-worm animals using the recommended dosage and methods of drug administration as well as selecting the proper site for injection, Extension skills an how best quality services can be delivered to the community by acting as a link between the farmers and the local government in order for them (farmers) to solve their production problems in agriculture.
Despite the fact that industrial training was completed successfully, a few challenges were faced like; the Conservativeness of some farmers who still adopted local methods of farming, the problem of the geographical location of places (parishes and villages) during data collection, the long distance from my home of residence to the sub-county which could interfere with my filed activities more so during data collection and scorching sun that could make my field activities sometimes difficult.
Since the training involved much in practical activities like; meat inspection, treating animals, data collection, training farmers, farm visits, etc., I would love to conclude that this industrial training ended successfully in Jesus' name.
However, I would love to draw some recommendations to both the sub-county and the university. The sub-county should provide transport facilities to the students during field activities and the
university to provide intern students with financial support (facilitation) for transport and lunch allowances during this period of internship. |
