Abstract:
The industrial training was conducted at NaSARRI in Serere Town council, Serere County, and Serere district Northwest of Soroti City 27km, where I was posted to four programmes. The main objective of the training was to produce practically hands-on orientated graduates who meet the job-related competencies and skills needed by their prospective employers.
During the training at NaSARRI, various activities were carried out which included; disease identification (blast) in finger millet, smut in sorghum, seed counting using a manual seed counter in cotton, weighing of seeds in legumes, dressing of seeds in legumes, seed storing, rope marking, bulking, digitalization of data, packing of seeds in oil crops scouting, tagging, emasculation, crossing, watering plot, genotype, and Replication identification, 100 seed count grafting, potting, budding, making a yolk.
However, some challenges were encountered during the IT such as inadequate equipment for laboratory and data collection work, and drought that adversely affects the experiments.
In conclusion, I gained a wealth of experience in regard to work and I am very optimistic that this industrial training will contribute significantly to my carrier development as an agricultural professional.
I recommend NaSARRI have more students join their programme so we to develop more skills and knowledge on different grounds involving agriculture.
