Abstract:
This report is a presentation of the activities carried out during the period of 8weeks of industrial training with Teso Tropical Fruits Cooperative (TEFCU) Ltd, completing industrial training is a requirement for every BSA4 student and its intended objectives are to produce practically qualified, skillful and empowered extension workers Who love to work, with a good social character and with a broad mind of innovativeness, to allow the student execute, all theoretical class work, relate and apply it practically in the field, to help the student build a good social character and love for agriculture-related work and to acquire experience in community work. Industrial training is a process involving seeking placement in a reputable agricultural organization .and completing agricultural activities there, I was attached to TEFCU whose mission is to achieve promote sustainable production and marketing of high-quality fruits in viable quantities to our customers for improved livelihoods of the fruit farmers and. the entire community in Teso sub-region and so I worked with citrus and mango farmers in the sub-counties of Kamuda and Arapai delivering training, support follow-ups, mentorships on record keeping and financial management, pest and disease management and general agronomy of citrus and mangoes where I was able -to reach a total 280 farmers(178 males, 102 females) through' training 131 farmers to inform of support follow-ups and as well helped in the purchase and supply of 240 bags of citrus to the fruit factory. This experience greatly built my interpersonal communication skills, demonstration skills, training facilitation skills marketing skills, and skills in handling an office getting in general. However, fieldwork at TEFCU also came with a few challenges like the inability to provide lunch facilitation to students and few transport means (motorcycles for fieldwork). In conclusion, the industrial training was a success it was a nice experience interacting with farmers and putting into practice class knowledge. into real farming situations and as a result guiding the farmers to become the best of themselves in fighting poverty through Mango and Citrus growing, I am glad to have creatively served the farming community of Arapai and Kamuda and I. believe that the farmers adopting technologies for improved fruit production will be models for the rest of the farmers to learn from.
