Farm and community outreach is a course module in the Bachelor of Science in agriculture and so is a requirement in the partial fullfillment for the award of Bachelor of sciences in Agriculture. The relevance of the training to meet the objectives of the course module which among others include equiping the student with knowledge and skills in preparation for the future career as anticipated in the unit being studied and build confidence in the students. This report contains and describes the activities implemented during the training which included training of farmers on farming as a business in Teso grain millers’ processors and marketing association (TEGRIMA), Arereng group Olwelai-oculoi Ojom farmers’ cooperative
Society(OJOFACOS). We carried out germination test on seeds to be supplied to farmers by Ayelape enterprises, senstisation of farmers on ACDP programme arereng. Also, we made visits to projects under the operation wealth creation, was in the Opiyai Irrigation scheme and fish farming of training, this includes the mentoring environment the working climate was favorable for the training, and as well the mentorship from my supervisor was great. Although the training was successful there were some challenges that I faced which among others included long distances, low turn up of farmers, and language barrier, basing on the challenges that I faced 1 recommend some measures at Soroti district local government, this measures put in place would better the operations at the department, these measures Include proper mobilization of farmers should improve for the training programs to solve problems of poor turn up during such activities, the government should also Increase the number of motorcycles to solve transport problems, In conclusion, all the activities were implemented and industrial training was carried out successfully I was able to gain a lot from it and knowledge in line with my career and studies. |
