dc.description Industrial training report en_US
dc.description.abstract Industrial training is a course module that is conducted from either within or outside the University with the intention of imparting practical knowledge and skills to the students. I conducted my training at Nakabango district farm located along Kamuli road in Jinja district for 10 weeks from 28th Feb to 6th may 2022. It is a government farm which lies on 42 acres of land which was started in 1948 as an agricultural variety trial centre under NARO to carry out trials for crops in eastern region and it's supervised by Jinja district local government During the training, I carried out activities such as dehorning, castration, disease diagnosis and treatment Of livestock, meat inspection, rumenatomy, giving advisory services to farmers, nursery bed establishment &management, pests and disease control and management in crops, Agronomy of banana, coffee, soybeans and management of dairy animals. Some of the skills attained during the training were meat inspection skills, Disease and pest Identification skills, how to talk to farmers & responsibilities undertaken were attending to all assigned field activities, counting numbers of animals slaughtered at the abattoir and this Influenced on my future career whereby Skills like effective communication will enable me teach more people about the sustainable farming technologies to improve on their sources of income & livelihoods. I correlated classroom knowledge with some activities where by Agronomy & plant pathology as modules gave me broad understanding of how different crops are managed from planting to harvesting. Anatomy & physiology, animal health as modules gave me broad understanding of various parts of drug administration on animals. In conclusion, the industrial training attachment has been so much encouraging and very necessary as It has built a very strong impact and powerful practical ideas in me as far as agricultural sector IS concerned than theories taught in lecture rooms. However, I was faced with some challenges like inadequate farm tools like knapsack sprayers, pangas, hoes, long distances from water sources, long distances from the place of residence to the farm, & Poor roads especially during rainy days, I recommend that the field attachment coordinator should always carry out a pilot study prior to field attachment to ascertain whether the organizations or farms are viable to enable the students acquire the necessary skills and knowledge, to the farm, Build more farm buildings which can accommodate internees during training to solve the problem of long distances from residence places. en_US
