Abstract:
The farm and community practice program is a course module and a requirement to attain Bachelor's degree of science in 4ericulture at Busitema University was done from Sironko district local government is located in the eastern region of Uganda. The period took a total of nine (9) weeks engaging in different activities at the production department under the direction and guidance of the sub county agricultural officer. The work plan of the activities to be done was designed and arranged by the sub county supervisor together with the students during orientation in the first week of reporting. During the period of the outreach a number of activities were carried out such as Orientation, awareness creation meetings on UglFT micro scale irrigation program, expression of farmer interests and registration on UglFT micro scale irrigation program, preparation of farm visits on UglFT micro-scale irrigation program, UglFT micro scale irrigation program on farmer field days, pests and disease surveillance visits farmer training on pests and disease surveillance, home and farm visits on crop agronomy, farmer training on good agronomic practices and establishment of banana and coffee demonstration garden for the period. However, many challenges were faced for example inadequate materials, long distance travels, stiff terrain to move, lack of inputs. Conclusively, despite the challenges faced during the community outreach period, the activities engaged in were done successfully as all the goals and objectives set for the farm and community practice were achieved. I however, recommend that the farm and community outreach program should be scheduled during the rainy season were crop activities are mainly carried out.
