Abstract:
Industrial training is a course module that is conducted from either within or outside the University with the intension of imparting practical knowledge and skills to the students. I conducted my IT from CUR.AD (Consortium for University Responsiveness to Agribusiness Development) located on block F9 in Gayaza, Kabanyoro, MUARIK in Wakiso district for a period of eight weeks. The key objective of this training is to enable us as students apply the theory learnt at the University and put it into get more knowledge in the field so as to know how to work with the community and be able to solve some of the challenges they are facing outside. During my I was attached to CEBU (Coffee Entrepreneurship Bureau of Uganda) by my field supervisor from where I managed to learn and carry out a series of activities especially in coffee processing and value addition. Among the activities was coffee sorting, moisture measuring of green coffee beans, coffee weighing, coffee roasting, coffee post-roast sorting, grinding, packaging, operating an espresso coffee machine, marketing and product. development in which I had to come up with my own innovation of a new product, make it, brand and. market the innovation in which I was successful and came up with a product we branded Sibby Crunchy Daddies. With all that, I gained a lot of skills and more practical knowledge in coffee processing and value addition which are very essential to my future career at the point when I need to venture into coffee production. faced some challenges among which were the unfavourable weather changes which affected me negatively and limited funds to finance some activities during my internship, However, the challenge of limited funds was solved by narrowing my internship budget as well as limiting .my movements which would call in for extra. costs. Conclusively the training was successfully done due to the co-operation; team work and the maximum efforts maintained between Internees, field supervisors and the rest of the staff of CURAD and CEBU.
