Abstract:
The report analyzes the internship training which I conducted at Makerere University Agricultural Research Institute Kabanyoro (MUARIK) located 21 km North West of Kampala along Gayaza road to Namulonge in Kabanyoro village Nangabo sub-country Kyandondo East couty Wakiso District for two and a half calendar months (20th May- 26th July 2019) to fulfill the requirements needed for the award of a bachelor’s degree of agribusiness Busitema university putting much of the theoretical knowledge learnt class into practice, acquire practical skills in farm management and get exposed to the working environment.
The report is divided into four chapters where the first chapter describes MUARIK's location, mission, vision, objectives and its organization structure
The second chapter examines the detailed activities I carried out while at the attachment which included Diary section where I milked the dairy cows on Wednesdays, sieved it, measured and sold it to the buyers, weight estimated the cattle by use of the weight estimation tape, temperature determined by use of a thermometer and the calf management practices. The banana section where we propagated them by use of suckers, micro and macro. The pruning, mulching, and weeding using different means. Piggery section where we emphasized on piggery which deals in the use of the procedures their manufacture and construction of organic pig sty. Vermiculture section, which is an innovation of rearing earthworms, their uses, breeds, nests which are their houses, their feeds, harvesting and consumption.
The third chapter illustrates the skills and qualifications I attained like milking, marco propagating of banana, rearing of earthworms among others, challenges and influence on the future career.
The last chapter bares. the conclusion and the recommendations' that should be in place for the perfection of learning like employing of skilled personnels among others.
The report concludes with the appendix baring the work plan, my photographs and the references for further review the activities carried out.
