Abstract:
This report was compiled from the activities carried out during industrial training at Bugaya Sub County in Buyende district from 28th February 2022 to 06th May 2022 for a period of 10 (ten) weeks. The internee was placed in production department under agricultural section of the local government institution.
Objectives of the industrial training was to enable students’ interaction with different people in their respective professions of all levels like supervisors, employers and employees, to acquire knowledge in managing crops, animals and Other agricultural related activities to acquire skills which are practical and to relate them to the theory studied from the lecture rooms and to get exposed to the outside world.
However, the Internee was engaged in orientation, establishing of banana plantation, planting of maize and beans, rice agronomy, budding of oranges, coffee agronomy, poultry management and of planting of passion fruits.
Knowledge and skills gained during the fieldwork attachment included knowledge on how to manage coffee plantations, managing of banana plantation, planting of passion fruits, how rice is grown and self-confidence, analytical skills etc.
Challenges faced during the industrial training placement included high transport costs, high illiteracy rates among farmers, short period of the training and also high community expectations, unfriendly weather conditions like daily heavy rains especially for the last four weeks of my training.
Conclusively despite the abovementioned challenges the industrial training was so knowledgeable and skillful therefore I extend my thanks to the production department of Bugaya sub county and Busitema University.
