Industrial training is. a course module that is conducted from either within or outside the University with the intension of imparting practical knowledge and skills to the students. I conducted my IT at CURAD Block F13 Kabanyolo Gayaza at MUARIK in Wakiso district for nine weeks from. 28th February to 6th May. The key objective of this training is to enable us as students apply the theory learnt at the University and put it into practice, get more knowledge in the know how to work with the community and be able to solve some of the challenges faced by people in our communities. During my Industrial Training, I carried out several activities on coffee value chain such as quality analysis and control by sorting and ensuring HACCPs, buying of coffee, value addition for example roasting, grinding, weighing, packaging, sealing and marketing of coffee and its products, coming up with different innovations as an association (BUASA). During the period of IT., I gained lot of skills in coffee value chain. Despite of the activities and skills gained in the field, faced some challenges such as not visiting the coffee farmers, off seasons harvesting of Coffee had not started and hence limiting me from some activities, high transport costs, unreliable electricity unfavorable weather conditions such as heavy rain fall at the facility, insecurity , However some of these challenges wee eradicated and combated due to some of the recommendations I passed to the CURAD CDO like purchasing of a generator other than relying only on electricity which is never stable and provision of additional gas cylinders, installation of CCTV cameras to ensure security in the processing facility, Conclusively the training was successfully done due to the co-operation and the maximum efforts maintained between Internees, field' supervisors and the rest of CURAD staff. |
