Abstract:
The training was carried out at kityerera presidential demonstration farm, kityerera Sub County Mayuge district. The main objective was to link the theoretical knowledge learnt in class with the practical in the field that enables the participants to. contribute technically to solving common farming problems that face both subsistence and commercial farmers in Uganda.
The farm has 12 enterprises which involve dairy, poultry, fish culture, vegetables, passion citrus, pine apple, mushroom, coffee, banana plantation. The dairy unit has five dairy animals that give about 1.8 liters per each per day on average. The animals are kept under zero grazing units. The animals are feed on mixed ration, milking is done manually, spraying deworming, treatment, record keeping, vaccination, debeaking, ear tag application, storage of drugs; feeding is also done at the farm. The poultry unit has 500 birds with the average production of 5 to 7 trays.
The training was more practical in that having my hands on with all the senses in use has changed me mentally and physically as I got chance to practice the activities myself.
