Internship training is designed to introduce student to the working environment and the tools used in the field of their study.
I had my internship from Pallisa District in the Production Department in conjunction with of other section like the physical planning unit, Agricultural engineering unit and the marketing unit of the District.
During internship the data gathering methods included farm visits, demonstrations, and also from written literature the inventories on Agricultural issues in the district like land grabbing.
This report summarizes historical background, culture, objectives and goals for Pallisa District as an organization and organization's gender issues
While at Pallisa District in the production department, I got involved in different activities like site selection for fish farming, vaccination of pets, extension education to farmers, and farm assessment/ monitoring and evaluation activities.
The experience gained and lessons learnt include the following;
• determining the inputs required and measuring the profitability of the various agricultural cluster development projects.
• Assessing if the development Project requires full EIA or not and carrying out Agricultural audits on developed farm ventures like poultry projects, private dairy farms, ACDP Projects among others.
• determining the value of the various ACDP Projects to the district stake holders and their associated constraints in the long run.
The challenges in the internship study included financial constrains in terms of facilitation, limited willingness of people to attend extension workshops and demos. And the major challenge was a lot over meetings of staff which would interfere with the study programs in internship.
The conclusions and recommendation to the university is that there is need for some facilitation in form of money to students before going for their internship.
The conclusions and recommendations to the organization there is need for recruitment of more technical people in the section of Agriculture most especially Agribusiness officers to train farmers with a mind-set of farming as business.
There is need to sensitize farmers on the benefits of farming as business. |
