Abstract:
This report contains and describes the activities implemented. Skills and qualification gained, challenges incurred during the industrial training, conclusions at the report and recommendations derived from the challenges facing Osukuru town council Tororo District Local Government. The objectives of this industrial training are to make students benefit from skills and knowledge obtained from the fields apply knowledge got from classroom in the field and gain confidence in them.
During the industrial training I was attached to the department of production. This followed by orientation where I was introduced to the AAO and later implemented the activities such as visiting government beneficiary farmers of Operation of Wealth Creation, training of farmer groups on FID, receiving and clarification of farm inputs (Cassava cuttings) Training farmers on the importance of using fertilizer, distribution of farm input (cassava cuttings), Attending TPC meeting, Council executive meeting, visiting farmers with zero grazing unit.
Training Rice farmers on poultry management, and how to write a business plan and its importance. During these activities, I learnt and gained skills like agronomy of onion, maize, and sugarcane. I also learnt the basic poultry management like feeding, housing, disease management, communication skills, and criteria of distribution of inputs.
I also faced problems of language barrier, bad weather like heavy rains, long distance, poor roads, poor mobilization of farmers, poor turn up by farmers to training. In conclusion, all the activities were implemented and the industrial training went on successfully. I gained a lot from it was in position of getting practical skills knowledge in line with my career and relating with the people in the field. My technical advises I offered help farmers solve their problems and meet their needs. I also noted that the government should work on the roads to make accessibility to farmers easier, and provide extension staff to rural farmers and also increase on the number of motorcycles to solve the problems of long distances to farmers.
