Abstract:
NAGRC and DB was established with a twofold mandate, namely; to play a leading role in the commercialization of animal breeding activities in Uganda. and to carry out activities that enhance animal Genetic improvement and productivity.
Specifically, the commercial activities [responsibilities]. NAGRC consists of an administrative structure i.e. from Board of directors to various managers. Orientation was conducted for the first two days at the farm by Mr. Nuwamanya Clement and Sgt. Odwong Martin. At LES Entebbe there were three enterprises i.e. Poultry, dairy and piggery sections. Activities. carried out included the following: feeding, watering, milking, Al, MOET, castration, record keeping, vaccination, fencing, bucket feeding pasture management and establishment, egg candling, egg collection and others
Skills gained from the attachment
• Operation of the hatchery machines and setting at right temperature
• Gained skills in the animals’ section.
• Feed formulation.
Influence of attachment on my future carrier
• I was able to apply the theory I learnt in class in the- field areas of animal management practices.
• The theory was applied in activities like AI construction of cattle shed, and many others.
• I was able to identify the drugs taught in class and how to treat their respective diseases Challenges faced include; poor communication, lack of accommodation, failure of internees to participate in activities practically, delayed delivery of feeds and other equipment.
Recommendations
Provision of a water storage tank, need to keep accurate records in order to ascertain the accurate amount of milk produced, eggs collected and sorted in a day.
