The industrial training was carried out from MSM training center in Gombe cub-county, Wakiso district 2km off Semuto road. It has two neighboring districts, Kampala in the East and Mukono in the West. It was a dynamic training because it included agricultural sections like crop section and the animal section. Activities were carried out from different sections of the farm as follows; cutting elephant grass and feeding the dairy animal, castration of a calf and a goat using open castration, disease diagnosis, and treatment in cattle, hand milking of the dairy cows, cleaning of the milking parlour and the crush, dehorning of a calf using a hot iron, mixing feeds and feeding of poultry birds, feeding of fish fingerlings, spraying of the cattle and goats, pasture management, collection of manure for biogas production among others. I gained skills in disease diagnosis and administration of drugs, feed mixing and feeding of chicken, castration by open castration method, dehorning using a hot iron, animal restraint techniques, communication skills, feeding fish by response method, hand milking of cows, spraying cows to control external parasites, drenching of farm animals. The challenges faced were shortage of water in the farm, inadequate accommodation for student at the farm, inadequate practical facilities in the farm such as a stethoscope and it was also costly in terms of feeding and report writing. The recommendations were; pumping more water from underground to solve the shortage problem, construction of more houses to accommodate students, and purchase of practical equipment such as a stethoscope. Finally, I concluded by saying that the industrial training was educational and successful because of all skills and knowledge gained. |
