Abstract:
The industrial training was done for 10 weeks starting on 28th Feb 2022 to 7th May, 2022. it was carried out in Rwentobo-Rwahi town council. Ntungamo district located on Kabale-Mbarara Highway 32 kilometer in southern Uganda.
The training was aimed at equipping the students with practical knowledge and relating it with the theory obtained in lectures. Activities that were carried out during the training included deworming using injectable dewormers, vaccination of viral disease especially lumpy skin disease, foot and mouth disease in cattle and Rabies in pets, treatment of diseases for example Mastitis, protozoan disease, training of farmers about acaricides, ticks borne disease, among others.
I gained skills in the activities like diagnosing the cardinal signs of the various diseases and their treatment, vaccinating of viral diseases and farm husbandry practices and took the following responsibilities during the internship vaccination, farmers trainings and assuming official responsibilities.
The challenges faced were; absence of primary structure like crushes on some farms which made, my work tiresome, sickness as a result of malaria and flue during the course of the internship, conservative farmers who were resisting vaccination of their cattle, insufficient funds.
I managed to solve some challenges like malaria fever, transportation to the farm by hiring motorcycles but other challenges like whole the town attending to the farmers. In conclusion, the training was successful and objectives were also achieved for example putting the theories I got from lectures into practice. I recommend the local government to facilitate veterinaries with reliable transport means to the field, farmers on the farm and all necessary equipment so as students enjoy hands on activities straight away from the campus.
