Abstract:
APM 2301, industrial training and community outreach is one of the course unit offered by Busitema University to every student pursuing bachelor of animal production and management. It is the course unit that provides the student with significant skills and practical knowledge and motivates him or her to become a professional and successful in his or her career. The student gains both theoretical and practical knowledge during the training. This report covers the introductory part detailing the description of Ochero town council as the study area where the Industrial was carried out from. It also contains the details of all the activities conducted during the period of industrial training in the town council of Ochero in Kaberamaido District. The activities conducted centered purely on animal husbandry e.g. herd health inspection, disease surveillance, and Animal health certification/issuance of animal movement permits, demonstration on tick control and poultry vaccination. The most prevalent animal diseases discovered in the field were majorly tick borne diseases, fasciolaisis and trypanosomosis. Sick animals were treated by me under the under the supervision of my field supervisor. The community of Ochero town council enjoyed consumption of safe and quality meat as the carcasses of all slaughtered animals were thoroughly inspected. The administration of Ochero town council is advised to put right the fence in the kraal which has already collapsed. Control of entry and exit of livestock will be easy once the new fencing is put in place.
