This report contains and describes the activities implemented, skills and qualifications gained, challenges faced during the training period such as financial constraints and lack of veterinary drugs at the Municipal Council, conclusion and recommendations that I derived from the challenges that I faced while at IMC for example The MAAIF should increase on the transport facilities in the Production Department.
The objective of this industrial training is to make students benefit from the skills and knowledge gained from the field, apply the theoretical part of their program of study into the field and build confidence in the students. During my industrial training, I was attached to the department of Animal Production, Iganga Municipality by the district Human Resource Manager. This was followed by an orientation where I was first introduced to the Community Based Facilitators at Iganga Municipal Council and in the abattoir, briefed about my role within the Institution during my training and also carried out a survey around Iganga Municipality where I came to know its location and boundaries. During my attachment, I carried out different field activities such as cleaning the abattoir, vaccination of birds, feeding of birds, changing of poultry litter, disinfecting of poultry houses, egg collection, de-worming of shoats and cattle, castration, dehorning, prophylactic treatments and activities, meat inspection. All these activities have made me to gain a lot of valuable skills and practical work knowledge like skills in dehorning, castration, and meat inspection, general treatment of animals, communication skills and confidence within myself. I gained a lot of skills, knowledge and mentorship in line with my career and profession. For example, I used many drugs during my training to treat veterinary disease Ike infectious diseases, parasitic diseases, protozoan diseases, bacterial and viral diseases such as ECF, CBP, Hypocalcaemia, Fascioliasis in animals, and Newcastle, Infectious
Corrynza, Coccidiosis in poultry other measures or techniques and operations were carried out to prevent some cases which may be disease related or not like deworming, dehorning, castration.
Nevertheless, regardless of some of the challenges that I faced, all praise goes to Almighty God that I was in position to implement all activities and the Industrial training was a success. After attaining several skills within in Animal husbandry, I am now endowed with the capacity to handle and manage some areas within my profession that I am pursuing; I therefore hope to apply all the skills, knowledge, experience and mentorship into the field after my graduation.
