Abstract:
A recess term report obtained from a field activities carried out at Veterinary Sector, Production department Lamwo District Local Government, from the 28th February to 29th April 2022, in the partial requirement for the award of Bachelor in Animal Production and Management of Busitema University, This Recess term was intended to make students benefit from the skills and knowledge gained from the fields, get exposure in the field of study as well as also apply the knowledge they got from the classroom in the field and build confidence in the students, Lamwo district is located in northern part of Uganda boarding South Sudan, with area coverage of 5596 km2 and the total population of 140231, Agriculture through livestock production and retail and food and cash crop production is the major economic activity in the area.
During the attachment period, through the guidance of DVO and my field supervisor, the activities carried out among others, were orientation in the first week, routine meat inspection at the slaughter unit, vaccination of animals against CBPP, Black quarter, rabies and Newcastle disease. I was also able to carry disease examination and treatment and offering technical guidance to farmers. We conducted training of farmers on livestock production, GBV and adolescence and HIV/AIDS.
With the skills gained in diseases identification and treatment, training and communication skills, meat inspection, also correlating with the class lectures and learning, the ten weeks period of study has generally impacted me either personally, interpersonally or academically, through the provision of valuable experience and improvement of self-confidence and self-concept.
In conclusion, I benefited a lot in the field attachment in a way that I managed to apply class room knowledge into practice through many activities and assignments I was instructed to do. The internship improved my interpersonal skills, presentation skills, acting freely around people, technical skills and knowledge in animal production and management, conflict resolution and group dynamics, organizational skill to mention a few.
