Abstract:
The industrial training was carried out at Solomon institute of learning and applied science.
It was there to attain practical skills a knowledge attained class through service learning on the farm from 28th of February 6th of May 2022.SILAS is a privately owned by Dr. Monica Musenero which is located Budaka district-Iki-lki town council just 1km from Iki-iki trading center along Pallisa-KamonkoIi-Mbale highway.
While at SILAS, I participated in various activities within different sections and these include, De-suckering and weeding in bananas, pruning in orchards and coffee, planting of maize, beans, weeding cassava, feeding and watering of pigs, poultry birds, goats and cattle, raising nursery beds, spraying farm animals, treatment of ' animals against menge, castration of pigs changing of the liter in poultry and general cleaning of the farm.
Data collection was through interviewing, observation and recording. I gained skills in castration, pruning, spraying of both animal's crops, proper plant spacing, proper management practices of banana plantation, deworming, taking records and treating of sick animals against mange and tractor ploughing.
However, there was a challenge of students being denied access tosome facilities like poultry units but this was later solved through coordination with the service-learning coordinator.
The internship was successfully though SLIS had few animals compared to the number of students handled. I therefore recommend that SIL should increase on the number of animals to make it easy to offer practical skills. Otherwise, am thankful to BUAC for organizing such a program and the entire management staff of SILAS for granting me opportunity to carry out my industrial training at their farm.
