Abstract:
This field work report is a presentation of all activities that I carried out in Kaproron Town council an Agricultural local government organization focused in the implementation of the extension service and rural nutrition program whose major objective is to improve the farmer's agricultural productivity in poverty-stricken areas and improve on the farmer's livelihood. K.T.C extension team also aims at empowering the farmers to succeed in the economy and strives to promote positive economic and social change by attaching more value to promote economic opportunities for agriculture, enterprises and communities through innovative application of sound business practice.
The objective of the industrial training was to allow me (student) to execute all theoretical class work, relate and apply it practically in the field, to equip me with a good social character and to help me build the love for agriculture related work, to gain experience in community work, sharing ideas with the community to help them become the best version of themselves fighting poverty through having adequate knowledge in agricultural production, capacity building by training by training them on good agronomic practices, to acquire practical experience in planning, implementing and evaluation of community work in relation to livelihood among others.
During the course of Industrial training, I was under the department of Agricultural extension where I worked together with the technical staff in educating the farmers on Enterprise selection and proper growing and maintenance of maize, beans, Irish potatoes, Coffee and in raising of vegetable nurseries for Cabbages, tomatoes, egg plants, onions and carrots in all the 7 wards of the town council. I also educated and advised farmers on pest and disease control.
Methodologies such as observation, interviewing and literature and tools like pruning saw, hoes, pangas, wheelbarrows, pegs and strings, watering cans, spades and rakes were used in carrying out demonstrations and dissemination of information to farmers,
The industrial training was successful as I was able to interact with community members learning from each other and as well obtained special skills like public relations skills, conflict resolution skills, communication skills and practical skills on agronomy.
