A report on industrial training carried out at Busitema University Arapai Campau farm.

Abstract

This report contains and describes the activities implemented, skills and qualifications gained, challenges faced during the industrial training, conclusion of the report and recommendations derived from the challenges faced while at Busitema university farm. The objective of this industrial training is to make students benefit from the skills and knowledge gained from the fields, apply the knowledge they get from the classroom in the field and build confidence in the students. During internship I was attached to the department of animal production. This was followed by orientation where I was first introduced to the various sections of the farm activities such as; cattle, goat, piggery, poultry, agroforestry, dairy and in some of these sections, the following was done; castration of boars and bulls for fattening and animal treatment, These activities have made me to gain a lot of skills and knowledge like; Deworming of goats and cattle, skills in Castration, skills in general management of animals, communication skills and confidence in leading of group which I was allocated to, skills in agroforestry management were achieved, feeds for various animals were also achieved through mixing, dairy management. During internship, I also faced some challenges like, late coming of members, un fulfilled promises like study trip for meat inspection and diary, un timely purchase of veterinary drugs and equipment at the farm, un predictable weather w made planting of pastures difficult harsh weather. In conclusion all the activities w implemented and industrial training was carried out successfully. I was able to gain a lot om it. I was in position of getting skills and knowledge in line with what I studied in class. my career and relating with people in the field made me learn a lot through their technical advices that they were giving to me made me proud of my choice to be in Arapai farm for internship attachment. There for I recommend the university to improve on the following renovation of the f structures like farm houses, cattle crush, spray race, piggery, goat houses, workshop unit an e sections for the better-quality competent practitioner extension workers in the whole Uganda.
