A report on industrial training carried out in national Semi- Arid resources research institute (NaSARRI) Serere district under livestock production and management.

Abstract

Industrial training, it's of great importance since it exposes students to the real working environment through allocation to different areas of conduct e.g., Institutions, organization, farms etc. However, I was attached to NaSARRI which deals with both crop and animal production which encounters the students doing the DAP, APM, AGB, and also those doing CGA. This started from 28th of February - 22nd of March 2022 with the main objective of enabling students to correlate the theoretical knowledge in class with the practical aspects. Otherwise, various activities were conducted daily, weekly and others monthly which includes; Health inspection and treatment, pregnancy diagnosis, spraying, Castration, Post-mortem, Record keeping, Census etc. This therefore equipped me with various skills of Post-mortem which is carried out on the dead animal in order to come up with the conclusion of what caused the animals death, Pregnancy diagnosis with the aim of determining whether the animal is pregnant or not, Ear tagging using the ear tag applicator for the purpose of identification of animals among others. Last but not list, for the training to be complete it must take a period of 10 weeks for its success. Lastly the industrial training is of the great pleasure to me since it motivates me to be a farm manager of my own weather employed or not hence my life will not be on the standstill.
