Abstract:
This report is about industrial training carried out at DW Model farm found in Kasanja village, Njeru sub county Buikwe district located approximately 3 kilometres along Kampala-jinja Road with a main aim of exposing students to field environment to enable them get hands on experience and get in touch with different professionals and technical personnel during the course of industrial training.
The activities which were carried out as further detailed in different sections included milking spraying, deworming, disease diagnosis and treatment, feeding and management of dairy cattle among others in the dairy section while feeding and feed mixing, poultry house disinfecting and cleaning, deworming, vaccina on, debeaking and brooder management among others in the poultry section. In piggery sec Ion activities involved feeding, spraying, cleaning and deworming while in the pasture section activities included, spraying, mulching, manure application, weed management, composite making and fertilizer application.
Classroom knowledge was correlated to the field situations through interacting with expertise and technocrats in animal production field, crop production field, advised farmers on farm management, gained animal management skills and got exposed to many life challenges and how to handle them during the course of internship,
In conclusion the encounter was of great significant not only to the students but also to the farm and farmers around DW Model farm. However, the farm lacks enough technical personnel for tending to all different projects both crop and animal projects which makes management of the entire farm inefficient. The farm had about four projects’ animals yet had three personnel under management of all these projects. Pests were also destroying farm crops.
Therefore, I suggest that the farm should provide more personnel to efficiently and timely manage the different projects to achieve the farm goals and objectives.
