Busitema University Arapai Campus (BUAC) is a Public University located in Soroti District in Eastern Uganda 8km from Soroti Town along Soroti Moroto road. The Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Sciences of the University designed this Field Attachment with the aim of building capacity of First and second Year students pursuing a degree in Animal production and management in practical skills related to their areas of specialization in various fields of agriculture in comparison with knowledge acquired from classroom as well as serving as a partial requirement for the award of a degree in animal production and management. This Industrial training report is a description and compilation of activities that were carried out during the industrial training from 20th May 2019 to 26thJuly 2019.
I carried out at Welthungerhilfe Moroto in Moroto municipality
Relevant activities carried out during the training include; spraying, blood sample collection, Hoof trimming of goats deworming, meat inspection (ante-mortem and post-mortem), disease diagnosis, and treatments of farm animals and pets.
Project goal is to improve the well-being and food and nutrition security of Agro-pastoralist communities with diverging interest in arid and semi-arid areas of Uganda, Ethiopia, and Kenya.
Development objective of the project Is to strengthen the livelihood and reduce vulnerability of pastoralist and agro-pastoral communities in Karamojong and Improving access to basic rural production and market infrastructure as well as basic social services
The programme result areas is the following: Sustainable natural resource management, Income generation, Community dialogue and conflict mitigation, Lobby and advocacy, Civil society capacity development, and Evidence and learning
Project Coverage: The SRAPLEA project is a global resilience program Implemented in eastern Africa Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda by Deutsche Welthungerhilfe, Action for Development (ADF), pastoralist's community
Conclusively, the industrial training commenced and ended successfully and I recommend the following to the livestock department; thorough sensitization of the herdsmen about notifiable diseases such as Foot and mouth disease and foot rote should be continuously done. |
