dc.description.abstract Karamoja Christian Ethno veterinary Program is a Christian Non-Governmental Organization operating in Nabilatuk, Moroto and Lolachat sub counties currently. It is composed of board of trustees, secretariats, field workers and communities. It strives to encourage and see the agropastoral people of Karamoja utilize the abundant local herbs and their wealth of indigenous knowledge for sustainable humanity. This organization undertakes lot of activities that include Animal health, poultry projects, Agro forestry, evangelism, HIV/AIDS Home based care and business development skills. The Organization intends to see that the indigenous knowledge of the Karamojong Agro Pastoralists of using local herbs is adversely used in order to promote improved health of the animals and re-establishment of the natives into a sustainable Agro pastoral community. During my attachment period I was involved in a lot of activities that involved both Animal health, extension activities, office work, and community sensitization. However, in my efforts to fulfill animal health activities, I found out that the major diseases that were affecting these animals were Tick Borne Diseases like East Coast Fever, Anaplasmosis, Heart water, and to a smaller extent Babesiosis. But mature animals seemed to be a little resistant to some of these diseases compared to the young ones which h a high mortality rate. These diseases could be possible to control only if the local herbs are used to completely eliminate tick multiplication other than the use of commercial pharmaceuticals and the introduction of grazing systems in the area. en_US
