Abstract:
Through this ongoing research, the department of veterinary services and animal industry aims to access the present level of animal health provision and develop along with all local partners and government system of service delivery to its citizens according to the get up objectives and goals of Pader district local government, veterinary sub sector.
The internship- training was well done in accomplishing the objectives through the activities done by the student during the internship training as follows,
• Vaccination and treatment of animals against various conditions
• Deworming cattle
• Livestock distribution to the beneficiaries
• Fish pond inspection
• Meat inspection.
During the training skills gained were vaccination deworming, communication skills, other skills like wound treatment and castration.
The challenges faced were reluctance of farmers to spend in treating them animals, inadequate means of transport to the field poor road, harsh weather conditions which generally affects the overall output of the activities.
In conclusion, the objectives were met to a greater extent as students were able to gain knowledge and skills, and the health conditions of the animals were improved.
Therefore, I recommend that to improve on the attainment of the objectives of the production department, veterinary subsector, the following should be done:
• Creating awareness about the importance of managing livestock in the communities,
• BUAC should continue sending mote students and securing for them internship placements within the local governmental organizations or institutions for the acquisition of enough practical experiences.
