dc.description Industrial training report en_US
dc.description.abstract This study report was compiled during the industrial training session that lasted for a period from 20th/05/2019 to 28th/07/2019 in Njeru stock farm. The training was to fulfil the requirements needed for the award of a bachelor's degree in animal production and management at Busitema University Arapai Campus which brings much of the theoretical knowledge got from lectures into practice to acquire knowledge and skills in various animal husbandry activities while in field. The farm was established in 1969 by the Uganda Government under MAAIF during DR. Apollo Milton Obote regime I. Covering 750 acres of land. Njeru stock farm is located along Kampala-Jinja high way 5km off Nyenga road, Kiryowa village, Njeru central division, Njeru municipality. Different activities were carried out during the internship for example deworming, periodic treatment, spraying, pasture management, cleaning of farm structures, castration, dehorning, milking, post-mortem, dipping, censusing and breed identification among others. Among the many activities done I was able to attain various skills like identification of injection sites and injecting of farm animals, disease diagnosing, drenching, communication, supplementary feeding, castration, spraying among others, However, I faced some challenges during the internship training and they include; high price of commodities at the nearby trading Centre, un-favorable weather conditions, diseases (malaria), missing some sections among others. Conclusively, the training was successful and beneficial to me and also loved the staff as they highly valued us as students and they gave us their time and therefore, I was able to learn much. Lastly I would like to recommend that the farm provides cheap accommodation to students, stocks adequate drugs, provide better care to the dairy animals by limiting much movements and then putting then under zero grazing to improve on milk production. en_US
