Abstract:
This farm community outreach training was conducted at BugiZARDI' and range of various activities in different sections were done at Ikulwe station and these include: maize, beans groundnuts, soy beans, cassava, coffee, Agro forestry, rice, and cattle.
I actively got involved in various activities during my farm community outreach training and I was in position to acquire more knowledge and practical skills in above stated various sections.
was able to acquire management skills and knowledge in cattle health management like deworming against internal parasites, spraying against external parasite and treating against diseases.
I was also able acquire the management skills in coffee for example pruning coffee in the mother garden and also raising coffee seedlings through cloning.
I was able to acquire knowledge on how to collect data on yield loss assessment of recycled hybrid of maize (bazooka hybrid)
I was also able acquire knowledge on identification of different cassava varieties.
Despite the fact that BugiZARDI has the passion and desire for crop production, livestock and agro forestry, the institute is surrounded by number of challenges which include:
I therefore argue the institute to monitor the health of the animals and take the control measures of both internal and external parasites and diseases so as to improve on the health of the animals in the institute. The institute should also construct more staff houses so as to accommodate more staff members.
