Abstract:
The training was a field attachment for national diploma in animal production and management. The organisation of the attachment was national animal and genetic resource centre and data bank (NAGRIC & DB). The main objective of the training was to learn disease diagnosis and treatment, milking of animals, castration, how to inseminate animals artificially and silage and hay making for feeding animals during scarcity. The training was basically in nature and we participated in all the activities assigned to us using all the available tools at the Aswa ranch and completed all the tasks ourselves but under the supervision and guidance of technical staffs. Areas of our coverage were on disease diagnosis/ investigation and giving the recommended drugs, milking, spraying, deworming, castration, and artificial insemination (Al). However, the study was challenging, tiresome and time consuming, it was still enriching and rewarding in the field of animal production and management. Recommendation is to engage all the students out for the practical training since animal's production and management is a practical subject and it makes one acquire practical experience and confidence in dealing with animal.
