Abstract:
Teso college Aloet farm owned by the school with both animal and crop enterprise that include, cattle, piggery, bananas, horticulture and other annual crops planted. It is aimed at providing with high quality animal products and crop produce.
The training at Teso Aloet provided practical skills and experience to enhance the theoretical knowledge that is learnt in class. Therefore, my objectives were to acquaint myself with:
The various crop handling practices i.e., agronomic practices like pruning tillage, planting, earthing up and so on.
The various animal husbandry practices and get hands on experience on animal well fare, skills which included, breed identification, disease diagnosis and treatment, anti-mortem and post mortem examinations etc.
The training revealed that some of the theories taught in class slightly differs from what is practically done in the field for example a crop and animal welfare practices are applied in the field, the obvious ones include planting, weeding, harvesting.
The training also revealed that the production and management in any enterprise require hard work, sacrifice, dedication and determination in order to achieve the expected profits or even more.
It is therefore recommended that more crop and animal husbandry officers should be trained to guide and advise the farmers who are facing hardships in production and management.
