Abstract:
The field attachment was conducted at Benedictine Monastery farm which is a private farm founded by Father John in 1885 and is located in Nyangole community along Kwapa road in Tororo Municipality. The objectives of establishing the farm were to generate income to support the monastery, creation of employment opportunities for the surrounding communities, creation of demonstration for study purpose, production of food for the neighboring community and improve on agri-business in Tororo municipal.
The report introduces you to four chapters that is chapter one, two, three and finally chapter four. Chapter one hits on introduction, background and objectives, chapter two introduces you on the detailed information of the activities covered in different sections of the farm, chapter three highlights on the impacts and the forth chapter drops you on the conclusion and recommendation then appendences and activity work plan.
I went through five sections of the farm and these were dairy, piggery, small ruminate, poultry and finally horticulture section. In these sections some activities correlated with my classroom work like spraying, deworming, feeding in pigs, treatment among others while others didn't like in horticulture section and in these sections, each was allocated for one week before shifting to another. I also went through hardships during the internship like limited fund, language barrier, insecurity among others as explained in chapter three of the report.
In the course run of the internship I had to acquire skills of identifying different signs of diseases, management practices like treating, deworming, spraying and so on as given in detail in chapter three.
