Abstract:
Industrial training is one of the modules done at Busitema University by all first year students in all academic programs. It was carried out for a period often weeks from 16th May to 22nd July 2016 at Manafwa District Local Government under Production Department. The training was mainly conducted at the farms within the District Slaughter slabs, Laboratories and Cattle markets following the weekly programs ranging from Dairy production, Disease Investigation, Poultry production and managements Piggery production and management, different activities were carried out such as Spraying of Livestock, Deworming, disease diagnosis and treatment, raising of one day old chicks, disinfecting the brooder house and other field and emergence cases.
Various skills were gained during the Industrial training including disease diagnosis, taking blood samples, collecting feacal samples, drenching techniques, raising of one-day old chick and tagging of farm animals.
However, a number or challenges were also faced like walking of long distances to the farms, cattle market, slaughter slabs, Shortage of equipment and drugs for the animals, Poor quality of farm structures. Harsh climatical conditions like too much sunshine which affect livestock production.
In conclusion though the experience was gained in a wide area of my career development, the District needs to improve on a number of facilities for better service delivery. The management of Production Department Manafwa District should construct better animal handling structures, stock appropriate drugs and install water for irrigation systems in the Farm lands and also construct houses for accommodation of the internship students.
