dc.description Industrial training report en_US
dc.description.abstract This report contains and describes the activities implemented, skills and- qualification gained, challenges faced during the industrial training at LFI lira. The objective of the industrial training is to make students benefit from skills and knowledge. gained from the field, apply the knowledge they get from the classroom in the field, build confidence in the students in the internship and to introduce students to the working environment, Light. force international is a non-profit organization located in Telela, Omito parish, Adyel division, lira city. It has four units which includes garden being the broadest with, sub units like garden, horticulture and orchard, poultry unit which consist of broilers, layers and kuroilers chicken, turkey and duck, piggery unit has large white and camborough and dairy and goats. units have freshian cows and south African boar goats. I arrived at the farm on the 28th February 2022 and was oriented together with my fellow students from Busitema university where was introduced to the farm and later implemented activities such as; land preparation, nursery bed site preparation, planting seeds in the nursery bed and seed bed, watering and spraying, pruning, disease diagnosis and treating livestock, raking and changing litter, disease diagnosis collecting eggs, Brooding, post-mortem, vaccinating birds, transplanting vegetables, training of the non-formal students. These activities made me to attain skills and knowledge in treating animals using different routes like I/M, S/C, I/V and oral routes using various drugs like ivermectin, tetracycline and dewormers among others, the general management of crop and livestock, communication skills and confidence in doing practical. During internship, I also faced some challenges like confusion from the university on the actual duration of the internship which make planning difficult, long distance from my residential plate to the farm, unfavorable climate which delayed some farm operation like planting maize. Conclusively, amidst all the challenges, I was implement 90% of the activities planned and completed industrial training successfully and gained a lot from it, I was in position of getting practical skills and knowledge in line to my career and relating with people in the field. Much as all were successfully done, there are also some little challenges which hindered the smooth running of some activities making me recommend that more tools should be added in the garden unit, the university should be clear on the exact duration of internship to avoid confusion. Lastly goat’s shelter should be improved to protect them from harsh weather condition and their should be interchanged with fresh greens to improve on their body condition. en_US
