The objective of this industrial training was to make students benefit from the skills and knowledge gained from the fields, apply the knowledge they get from the classroom in the field and build confidence in the students. During internship I was attached to the department of animal production. This was followed by orientation done by Dr. Lutaaya the DVO Kyotera district where I was introduced to Dr, Jjumba Vicent the AVO who was going to be my field supervisor during my internship and later I implemented the activities such as; castration of piglets for fattening, Training of farmers on animal management, animal treatment, vaccination of dogs and cats in all the parishes, meat inspection, checking of animal transportation permits, milking, building of the cattle crush, vaccination of foot and mouth disease, cleaning calf pens, mulching of coffee, control of weeds by spraying, fencing of the farm, iron injection and deworming of pigs and cattle. These activities made me to gain a lot of skills and knowledge like; Deworming of goats’ cattle, skills in Castration, skills in general management of animals, communication skills and confidence in training farmers on animal management. During internship, I also faced some challenges like; poor mobilization of the farmer on vaccination programs, lack of veterinary drugs and equipment at the Sub County, limited and expensive transport means for field work and the bad weather conditions like rainfall which hindered our programme. In conclusion all the activities were implemented and industrial training was carried out successfully, I was able to gain a lot it. I was in position of getting practical skills and knowledge in line with my career and relating with people in the field. The technical advice that I provided addressed farmer problem and needs. Much as all were successfully done, there were also some little challenges which hindered the smooth running of the activities making me recommend proper mobilization of farmers must improve for the training programs to solve problems of poor turn up during such activities, government should also increase the number of motorcycles to solve transport problems and more equipment and veterinary drugs to be installed so that animals are treated and vaccinated in time. Lastly the Appendences shows the Map of my working area, work plan and photos of the activities carried out.
