Abstract:
This community outreach report contains and describes the activities conducted, skills and qualifications gained, challenges faced, conclusion and recommendations derived from the challenges faced at Soroti City Council. The objective of this industrial training was to make students benefit from the skills and knowledge gained from the fields, apply the knowledge they get from the classroom in the field and build confidence in the students. This was followed by orientation where I was first introduced to production department and later I executed following activities such as meat inspection, construction of pig abattoir, management of citrus vaccination of birds’ survey of different agro input in Soroti city, standard germination test of common beans and among others. These activities enabled me to gain a lot of skills and knowledge such as meat inspection, vaccination of birds carrying out of germination test and management of citrus. During internship, I also faced some challenge such as long distance, poor roads and lack of transport means, language barrier and lack equipment to use at the abattoir. In conclusion all the activities were executed and industrial training was carried out successfully. I was able to gain a lot from it. I was in position of acquiring practical skills and knowledge in line with my career and relating with farmers in the field. Much as all were successfully done, there were also some little challenges which affected the execution of some activities making me recommend that Soroti city council should work on the following. The manager and his staff should improve the piggery and cattle abattoir facilities because most of them are in poor conditions and more skilled and qualified technician should be recruited or trained on proper conduction of meat inspection.
