Abstract:
The industrial training is carried out in order for students to express their potential and also learn more in the field. However, this report carries the background, activities that were carried out, skills and qualifications obtained, challenges that were faced, conclusions and recommendation generated from challenges that were faced during the course of industrial training that started on 28/2/2022 to 4/5/2022 at Busitema university Arapai farm. The training was targeted to enable students put class room theoretical work in the field, gain more skills and experience, build confidence and to get exposed to job markets. In our first day of reporting, orientation and allocation of students to different sections in the farm to attend per week was done and the sections include, banana, apiary, goat, workshop, green house, piggery, mushroom, dairy, and cattle and my group members did a number of different activities in different sections and among this include, carrying agronomic activities in bananas, hive Inspection, and management practices in apiary, cleaning, disease diagnosis, dehorning, castration in goats, welding and repairing of windows in the workshop, grafting, budding and agronomic activities in green house, cleaning, disease diagnosis and identifying different breeds in piggery, yoghurt making, cleaning in dairy fencing of paddocks, disease diagnosis in cattle among others.
However, I encountered some challenges like, poor field supervision by the field supervisors, sometimes long hours of work without refreshments. In conclusion therefore, the training went generally good, aims and objectives were achieved and am very much optimistic that the confidence I have gained is good enough for me to staff serving the community. However, for
the good and betterment of this Arapai farm, I recommend that more farm attendance be added so as to ease the training of learners, poultry section should also be put back to use in order for the students to learn more in poultry rearing and production, aquaculture (fish fanning) also be put back to use, this would help students to learn more about fishing, more improved or exotic breeds of cattle, pigs, goats be introduced and also improve on paddocking units.
