Abstract:
Industrial training is one of the course unit carried out at Busitema university Arapai campus. It is done outside lecturer’s room and it's all about interaction between farmers, students and field supervisor. I did mine in 9 weeks starting from Monday 28/Feb/2022 up to 02/may/2022 (that is two months and one week) and was divided in to three sections
In the field, we constructed nursery beds I trained farmers on food safety and meat handling especially at abattoir, we did pricking out seedlings at the agroforestry section, we interacted with farmers on how they should improve their apiary, we also trained farmers on how to plant maize on demonstration garden and I did also vaccination of chicken against new castle we sensitized farmers on fall armyworm infestation furthermore, I also carried out deworming of small ruminants (goats) against internal worms like tape worms, round worms and this was done by giving animal albendazol orally. On the other hand, and I also trained farmers on soil and water conservation measures like using gabions and constructing ridges to reduce runoff
In the office, we attended to farmers who have different problems, did profiling of farmers groups, we distributed one-day old chicken to farmers and we trained fanners on good poultry management, organized office and I trained farmers on how to intercrop coffee with bananas with the recommended spacing (6mx 6m) for bananas.
In the abattoir, we got to know operation of the abattoir, I inspected animals through ante mortem and post-mortem to ensure that the meat passed for human consumption in the area is safe and free from diseases and germs. However, during my internship, the major cases encountered include east coast fever Anaplasmosis and helminthes infestated animals and recommendation made were for the veterinary sector to carry out tick control and mass treatment of animal arid adviced farmers to practice regular deworming.
