Abstract:
This Report contains all activities done, skills and qualifications gained, challenges faced, conclusions and recommendations derived from challenges encountered during industrial training at KSF — NAGRC, located in Kamuli District.
The main objectives of the industrial training were to enable students apply classroom knowledge in the field, gain more skills and experience from the station of attachment, build confidence and exposure to the job market as well as creating connections.
The training was conducted in KSF in Kamuli district from 28th /Feb/2022 to 6th /May/2022. On reporting to the training station, we were oriented on different sec ns to attend and activities to do per week around the farm. I did a number of activities in different sections, among which are branding, castration, PD, Dipping, treatment in cattle section, fish grading, fish pond digging, sampling and liming of the pond in aquaculture, postmortem, inspection, ear tagging, treatment of pneumonia in goats, maggot production, operating machinery in the feed mill, cleaning of the poultry, turning litter etc with these activities. I have gained skills like castration skill, fish pond design, skills of sexing fish, skill of maggot production, poultry management, disease diagnosis, skills of deworming, etc. However, I faced a few challenges like unstable power which hiders operating of machines, language barrier m some sections, and long distance to the training station. In conclusion, the training went smoothly and am confident I can work as extension officer, I can offer service to the community. And I recommend that, the farm residences should be completed so that internship studies will be able to keep time and avoid moving long distance, attendants should be willing to use official language, and also KSF should put a stand by generator in place to carb unstable power issues.
