Abstract:
I carried my attachment at Kween district local government in the production department. Kween is one of the districts in Uganda in the eastern region which boarders Bukwo district in the east and Kapchorwa district in the west. It is a form of decentralization of administration in the country.
Kween district local government comprises of many departments which include production, administration, finance, planning, health, works among others. During the course of my industrial training, I was attached to the district production department which comprises of crop production and management, animal production and management and veterinary department., I was attached to the district veterinary office and which is a department majorly concerned with animal health within the district.
While in the veterinary department, I was attached to Binyiny sub-county to carry out data collection and subsequent vaccination of poultry against New Castle Disease (NCD), subsequent vaccination of foot and mouth disease (FMD) and treatment of various diseases such as east coast fever (ECF) mastitis, heard water, prolapse, training of farmers on pasture growing and management, inspection of meat, vaccination of dogs against Rabies. ln data collection, techniques like random sampling, extraction from published data were employed so as to aid required like number of poultry per household and their health, number of cattle per household and their health. Vaccination was thus carried out after data collection and analysis within the veterinary staff.
During the course of data collection and vaccination activity, I acquired skills which included, understanding drugs of choice like Newcastle vaccine B1 (the drug contains penicillin and streptomycin which are bacteriostatic) against new castle disease.
