Abstract:
My training was conducted at Kapir Sub County under local government Ngora district for the period of ten weeks which was aimed at equipping me the student with more practical and professional skills so as to fulfill their objectives and goals as per the sub county vision of the financial year.
At Kapir Sub County there are mainly shoats, cattle and poultry and I was to be engaged in all these field activities when we were called upon. I carried out different activities both field and office. For field activities in the cattle section, they include breed identification, health inspection, spraying, animal traction, and treatment etc. For shoats, activities included; ear tagging breed identification, health inspection, census and treatment as detailed in Chapter: 2. Office activities included; STPC meetings COUNCIL meetings etc.
The attachment equipped me with number of skills important in animal production and also social life since I was able to interact with different farmers. These include; Skill of diagnosing and treating different common livestock diseases basing on their clinical signs, how identification can be carried out in both cattie and goats, how to control both internal and external parasites in livestock as per Chapter 3.
I also held the following responsibilities during the training, Census and health inspection in both cattle, goats and poultry section during market days, spraying of animals to control external parasite during demos.
