Abstract:
This report is based on the activities that I carried out in Busitema University, Arapai Campus farm during the period of ten weeks.
The training was based on both animal and crop production and management where I participated in both sections.
The animal section consisted of cattle, rabbits, small ruminants (especially goats) and piggery. While the crop side had perennial and annual crops like maize, bananas, tomatoes, egg plants, green pepper and carrots etc.
I was able to go through all this sections learning a lot of things during each session. Some of the activities that I participated in include training on clean milk production, training on piggery farming, training on rabbit production and management, training on tomato growing, training on apiculture and aquaculture, I also attended a one-day seminar on enterprise selection and development and many other activities.
During this training I also gained some skills, like on injection where I believe I can now do it on my own, Incision and drainage operations, diagnosis of s me cattle diseases and also routine activities that should be done on both goats and pig houses. Generally, there are a lot of skills that I have gained during this period of training.
There were some challenges that I encountered during the training that Included, lack of enough tools and equipment that made the working operations very difficult. There was also a problem of congestion of students during an operation that made the learning very difficult due to crowding. Some of the sections that I had planned in my work plan were also not executed and many other challenges that I can't mention all
I would like to conclude by saying that the training was successful and I had a lot of experiences to encounter despite of the few challenges faced.
I would like to recommend that the university finds a way of fixing the above problems and others that I have mentioned in chapter three of this booklet so as to improve on the level of learning and to make learning effective and skillful.
