Abstract:
This report was compiled during my industrial training that lasted tor 10 weeks in Busitema University Arapai Campus farm. The major purpose of this training is to fulfil the requirements needed for a partial fulfilment in Diploma in crop production and management of BUAC and also to put theoretical knowledge got from class into practice.
In this training I was attached to several sections which included Banana section, green house section, orchard/mushroom section, piggery unit, cattle section, small ruminants, diary section then we were allocated in plots for maize and banana reestablishment.
We also participated in several activities in chapter two like deworming, spraying cattle & goats against ticks and pigs and lice and mange. Weeding and spraying of crops e.g. maize, banana plants to control pest's army worms, fertilizer application on different crops such as tomatoes in green house and maize and also establishment of Nursery beds plus identification of diseases in both animals and crops with the corresponding treatments.
In addition to acquired skills and the knowledge in farm management, study of diseases, their course and control, I learnt on how to maintain hygiene on the farm, giving feeds to pigs at different ratio using different feeds, feeding of dairy animals which was done in chapter three
I n conclusion, the IT was educative and it equipped me practical skills and knowledge which further made more efficient. I would like the administration of BUAC to provide equipment to the entire sections to ease the practical sessions
More work was done on identification of different breeds of animals, pasture improvement and record keeping.
I recommend the BUAC to bring in new breeds of goats, cattle and pigs, purchase of apparatus such as heart girth and tools such as slashes, hand hoes for easing the activities in the farm since there were a few challenges in different sections due to lack of equipment.
