Abstract:
This report outlines the major purpose of the internship program as part of a student's way of implementing what is theoretically taught in class to relate it the working environment. It asses the relatedness' of this program the courses taught at university and its relevance to the student. The internship training was conducted from 1st March to 10th May 2022 at Kufarm diverse agriculture Wakiso Namusera along Hoima road.
I was attached to the crop department during my internship training at Kufarm. The internship program was mainly aimed at equipping students with practical skills and knowledge so as to be prepared for the world of work since mostly theoretical knowledge is taught at the University. The other reason for placement was to foster students' understanding of work ethics, employment demands, responsibilities and opportunities at places of work.
The major activities carried out in the internship placement were planting, nursery management weeding, spaying, harvesting sorting, counting, packing, marketing recording files on the number of research and non-research studies both done from different departments aided by different P.I on both clinical and observational trials using different study farms.
The internship report portrays the internee’s field experience inform of achievements reached, duties and responsibilities held, title occupied in the organization, supervision levels and relationship with both my supervisors and fellow internees in the organization and other workers at Kufarm, work team, and its composition, challenges faced and how managed to overcome them, conclusion and recommendation among others. Interesting moments enjoyed by the student such as carrying out demonstrations, attending meetings, and trainings.
The major problems encountered in the internship placement among others included financial constraints in terms of transport, poor working schedule and lack of enough and permanent office space for the interns in the department as we were constantly shifted from one place to another which made life a little harder. The rampant load shedding in the area which made timely completion of work a little bit impossible and too much dust in the area resulting from the poor road which left most of us sick with flue and cough.
In conclusion, the findings and knowledge obtained in the internship placement revealed that students getting theoretical knowledge from class should be exposed more to more practical learning at the University as a supplement to the internship training in order to instill practical skills in them so as to ensure effective and efficient service delivery to the societies they will serve after graduation.
Finally, I recommend the authorities the farm to secure more means of transport far effective service delivery, procure adequate computing equipment in the organization and students should change their attitudes positively towards work.
