Abstract:
Industrial training is among the requirements needed for students of various programs to accomplished in order to graduate, it' s done at the middle of the course e.g. after one year for a two year course and after two years for four years course, students are expected to leave there campuses to get exposed to new practical skills in various field and supervisor at the end, then after expected to write a report and submit for marking, Internship aimed at producing higher trained students in practical skills to enhance field and job creativity in community and put in place existing theory into practical skill obtained, Activities conducted during industrial training include, cleaning of diary unite, feed formulation, pasture management, green house production, weeding of banana garden, feeding of pigs, dehorning, disbudding ,trellising in tomatoes spraying and planting of maize.
Therefore, my main objectives were to attained knowledge in the following sections
• animal section Cattle management
• Breeds and daily routine management in piggery
• Parasites and disease identification in pigs
• Control measures
• Feed formulation
• Banana production
• Green House production
• Land marking
• Pastures management
• Agronomic practices, poultry, and orchard management, small ruminants and seed bed preparation.
The training however was successful since most of the aims/objectives were attained during our internship, we were divided into groups for easy mobilization each under one leader and we were to move from one section to another from one week to another respectfully, our internship used to be conducted from morning 7:30am until you finish the work depending on your commitment, however each section had its own instructor to guide the learners, our intern took us 10 weeks. Therefore, we observed that we were missing a lot in class since most practical skills were impacted during internship. we also observed that most farmers were lacking a lot especially in field marking and agronomic practices hence lowering their Productivity and we therefore recommend crop officers should be trained to help farmers achieve long and short term objectives in production and minimize losses affecting their enterprises. I also advice our university to give students more time and allocate more resources in internship sections since it has more positive impact to students towards achieving the nearby future career.
